Moses-in-the-Cradle scientific name is Tradescantia spathacea. It is also called Moses-in-a-basket. It is an herb plant that native to Mexico, but widely grown in tropics, subtropics and warm temperate climates. It has rosettes of waxy lance-shaped leaves. Leaves are dark to metallic green above, with glossy purple underneath. These will reach up to 1 foot (30 cm) long by 3 inches (7.5 cm) wide. They are very attractive and variegated foliage plants. This is an evergreen and ornamental plant. It can grow in sun or partial shade. It blooms white flowers all the year. It is invasive exotic to South Florida. Plants are primarily grown for their color and texture attributes for a landscape. People plant T. spathacea in their garden for its beauty.
